After the satisfying dinner at Ichiban, I did not forget to get the cakes for tomorrow's breakfast. G recommended the strawberry shortcake (I had been eyeing that too=p) and who can resist the temptation of chocolate? So I got the strawberry and the chocolate.
Strawberry shortcake at $3.50 (left), Guanaja at $4.50 (right).
Strawberry shortcake. The aluminum foil reflected light as I took the photo=S. This was 2 layers of cake with whipped cream and strawberries in cream in between the layers. The sponge cake was fluffy and soft. The cream (more buttery, like those traditional cakes made from fresh cream) in the middle of the sponge tasted different from the top layer of cream (which was sweeter).
Guanaja. Didn't understand what the name of the cake meant, after googling, other than it being an island (one of the Bay Islands of Honduras in the Caribbean), one of the results showed that it is a type of chocolate brand. Anw, this slice of cake had different chocolate textures in it and each layer added to the goodness of the cake. The bottom biscuit layer tasted like nutella/crumpy (again. hazelnut chocolate?), then it was followed by a thin layer of moist cake, a layer of fudge, a layer of chocolate, cake again, and the thick dark chocolate at the top. Mmmm~
I can't decide which one I prefer. Guanaja or Cedele's Chocolate Truffle Cake. I guess Guanaja is more fanciful, while Cedele's chocolate truffle cake is a slice of smooth creamy chocolate with a thin digestive biscuit base, but yet it isn't over chocolatey (probably also because of the cocoa powder at the top). Go for Cedele's if you want pure chocolate that keeps you wanting more while the Guanaja is the one with more surprises with the different textures :).
