Modesto's

Started a new school semester ytd and for some reason, the school was FLOODED with people. People were everywhere. In the LTs, along the corridors, in the central forum, in the forum bookshop, in the central library, in the arts canteen, queuing and floating about. But that's not the point. The point being, after lessons, I went to Modesto's for lunch! :).

P had this Modesto's 30% discount voucher (from the NDP pack!), so along with C, we met at the Vivo city with rumbling stomachs.

I felt like an excited child when I stepped into the Italian restaurant=p. The theme of the decor of the restaurant was mainly brickwork, and there were outside seats which faced the harbour waterfront. The weather was vv humid so the outside seats didn't look attractive at all in the day. But I guess it could be quite dreamy at night:).

Vivo city is quite a humongous place so it took us some time before we all reached Modesto's, so being low on sugar, we made up our minds quite promptly after perusing through the menu.

Basket of bread, served with olive oil and vinegar. Pleasant surprise:). My first time in Modesto's, so I didn't know they serve bread FOC before the meal. The bread was very fragrant, and it tore apart easily when I bit through it. Yuums.

Peach Soda at $5.50. Sweeet:). It looks like plain water with a slight tinge of food colouring huh.

Pizza Ai Quattro Formaggi (regular) at $22.
-Tomato, scamorza, mozzarella, gorgonzola and parmesan cheese

This wood-fired flat pizza had four types of cheese in it! The cheese names are long, and I only recognise mozzarella and parmesean, the more common types of pizza cheese. Saw some slightly bluish looking cheese on the pizza and expected something a little smelly. I remember sampling blue cheese during one of my biology lab lessons in secondary school and it stank! The bluish cheese was actually gorgonzola, and it didn't have any strong pungent smell/taste, possibly cos there wasn't much of the gorgonzola in the pizza. Scamorza is another Italian cheese, and it tasted like mozzarella. Even with the combination of four types of cheese, the pizza wasn't too salty. The mixture of cheese and the juicy tomatoes went very well, and when eaten piping hot, you cannot stop sending more pizza into your mouth.

Apart from the flavourful cheeses, the pizza crust was soo crispy that you can hear the crunch-crunch sounds of your neighbour's teeth sinking into the crust. Mmmm. The pizza looks huge, but with the thin crust, even ladies with small gastronomical storage space can manage two to three slices easily.

Tagliatelle Nere con Cappesante E Gamberi at $25.
-Home-made black ink flat pasta served with pan-fried scallops, prawns and diced tomatoes in a shrimp bisque sauce.

Surprisingly, this Italian pasta had a very distinctive Chinese flavour. The sauce reminded me of bak chor mee or fishball noodles. The familiar Chinese taste aside, the pasta was awesome. While my mouth was still full of pizza that I had been gushing over a minute ago, my mind had flown to the pasta. The seafood was very fresh and succulent. The tagliatelle was springy and when soaked up in the sauce, it was yummylicious.

Tiramisu Modesto's at $11.00.
-The original version of mascarpone cheese, espresso, savoiardi fingers and coffee liqueur.

Desserts! Most ladies will always keep a spare compartment in their stomachs for the sweet delights. The generous serving of the tiramisu accompanied with strawberries and blueberries and whipped cream looked altogether delectable. I would have preferred more liquor though, but probably cos they used coffee liquor instead of rum, so the flavour was not as distinct. I like more cream and cheese in my tiramisus and this had a litttle bit too much cake.

With the voucher, we spent about $17.40 each for a very extremely gratifying meal :). And there are so many other exciting items on the menu. I'm coming bacck(::.
